Humanitarian Action for Children 2026 - Mozambique
Humanitarian Action for Children 2026 - Mozambique
HIGHLIGHTS
- Intensifying conflict, climatic shocks and public health emergencies continue to drive urgent humanitarian needs in Mozambique. Displacement, food insecurity, cholera outbreaks and protection risks persist, disproportionately affecting women, girls and people with disabilities. Nearly 1.8 million people – including 1 million children – require life-saving assistance in 2026.
- UNICEF will prioritize integrated, community-based responses in the areas of health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection and social protection. The strategy includes scaling up cholera and malnutrition treatment, expanding humanitarian cash assistance and strengthening local systems for service delivery and accountability. Cross-cutting areas such as protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, accountability to affected populations and adolescent engagement are integrated to ensure a rights-based, inclusive response.
- UNICEF is appealing for $58.8 million in 2026, with major investments required in WASH, nutrition, education and child protection to reach 1.2 million people, including 866,000 children, with life-saving support and other critical services. Without sustained funding, lifesaving nutrition, WASH and protection interventions for thousands of children will be interrupted.
KEY PLANNED TARGETS
594,675 children receiving vitamin A supplementation
280,466 children/caregivers accessing community-based mental health and psychosocial support
295,000 children accessing formal or non-formal education, including early learning
699,992 people reached with critical WASH supplies
